Mussorgsky played on the Rieger Pipe Organ, Christchurch Town Hall, New Zealand by Martin Setchell with paintings by New Zealand colourist Philip Trusttum.
To accompany this performance of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, concert organist Martin Setchell invited New Zealand's leading colourist, Philip Trusttum, to create a corresponding series of paintings. This reversed the original artistic process, in which the 1874 exhibition of artworks by Viktor Hartmann inspired his friend Mussorgsky to compose the epic cycle of piano pieces.
The Setchell/Trusttum audiovisual Pictures at an Exhibition was first given at the Christchurch Town Hall on May 31, 2003.
